Pixelfed is the public’s alternative to Instagram, that doesn’t algorithmically shove stuff at you, and serve you more ads than content. They are going to be pursuing self-funding via Kickstarter.

I will donate, and if you want to truly own our social networking in the future, we can all take a tiny stake in our future. What we have paid in our personal data, our arguments online with strangers, our eroded attention spans….we can walk away from that.
